Questions & Answers
Not at all! While many of our guests are surfing for the very first time, HI Surf Camp is designed for both beginners and intermediate surfers.
We keep our groups small, which allows us to personalize the coaching based on your experience, confidence, and goals. Whether you're catching your first wave or looking to improve your technique, we'll meet you where you are and help you progress.
Definitely!
Many of our guests already have surfing experience and come to Hawaii because they want to take their surfing to the next level.
We'll work on the skills that make the biggest difference in your progression, such as:
Every surfer has different strengths and different goals, so we'll adapt the coaching to what you want to improve.
Absolutely! In fact, most of our guests are complete beginners.
We'll guide you step by step in a safe, fun, and supportive environment. You'll learn everything from the ground up, including:
Our goal is for you to leave Hawaii with a strong surfing foundation and the confidence to keep surfing wherever your next adventure takes you.
You don't need to be a strong swimmer, but you do need to feel comfortable in the water and be able to stay afloat.
If needed, we have life vests available, and we always choose beginner-friendly conditions.
Your safety is always our number one priority.
That's completely normal.
Many of our guests have never spent much time in the ocean before arriving in Hawaii.
Before we even get into the water, we'll explain ocean safety, surf etiquette, and how to stay comfortable in the waves.
We'll always choose beginner-friendly surf spots and take things one step at a time.
Our goal is to build your confidence, never to push you beyond your comfort zone.
No.
You don't need to be an athlete or be in perfect shape to enjoy HI Surf Camp.
A reasonable level of fitness and being comfortable in the water are all you really need.
If you'd like to prepare before arriving, I recommend doing a few push-ups, stretching your shoulders and hip flexors, and practicing a few pop-ups at home. These simple exercises can make your first few surf sessions even more enjoyable.
Don't worry if you haven't had time to prepare. We'll teach you everything you need once you're here.
No.
There isn't a maximum age for joining HI Surf Camp.
As long as you're healthy, reasonably mobile, and excited to learn, you're welcome.
We've taught guests of many different ages, and surfing is something that can be enjoyed throughout life.
There isn't a strict weight limit.
What's more important is your mobility and overall comfort in the water.
We choose surfboards based on each guest's size and experience to give you the best chance of success.
If you're unsure, just send me your height and weight before booking, and I'll let you know what I recommend.
We keep our groups small, usually between 3 and 6 guests.
Smaller groups mean more personal coaching, more individual feedback, more waves, and a much better overall experience.
It also creates a relaxed atmosphere where everyone quickly gets to know each other.
We aim for a maximum ratio of one instructor for every three guests.
This allows us to spend plenty of time with each person, provide individual coaching, and make sure everyone feels safe and supported in the water.
Your first lesson starts on land before we even touch the water.
We'll meet at Kapiolani Park around 8:30–9:00 AM, where everyone gets to know each other.
We'll go through a surf introduction, watch a short instructional video, explain ocean safety, practice paddling and popping up on land, and warm up together.
Once everyone feels comfortable, we'll head into the water for your first surf session.
After surfing, we'll enjoy breakfast together before starting our first Hawaiian adventure.
Yes!
One of the biggest advantages of HI Surf Camp is our small group size. That means we can give every guest individual feedback throughout the week.
Before your first surf session, we'll learn about your surfing experience, confidence level, and goals.
During the camp, we'll coach you based on your own progression—not everyone else's.
Whether your goal is standing up for the first time, catching more waves, improving your turns, or simply feeling more comfortable in the ocean, we'll help you get there.
Absolutely.
Because our groups are intentionally small, everyone receives coaching appropriate to their own level.
Beginners focus on building strong fundamentals, while intermediate surfers receive more advanced coaching to improve technique, wave reading, positioning, and overall surfing performance.
Everyone progresses at their own pace, and that's exactly how we like it.
Progress & Learning
Everyone learns at a different pace.
Some guests stand up during their first lesson, while others need a little more time. There is no right or wrong speed to learn.
My goal isn't to rush you. It's to help you build confidence, understand the ocean, and enjoy every session. By the end of the week, most guests are surprised by how much they've improved.
That's completely normal.
Every surfer falls off, even professionals. Falling is simply part of learning.
Don't get discouraged if it takes a few attempts. Every wave teaches you something, and every time you get back on your board you're becoming a better surfer.
I can never guarantee it because everyone learns differently.
That said, helping complete beginners stand up on their first waves is what we specialize in. With the right coaching, beginner-friendly equipment, and suitable conditions, most of our guests stand up during their first lesson.
Don't worry.
This is one of the biggest concerns people have before arriving, but it's extremely rare for someone to leave camp without catching waves.
We'll work together throughout the week, and I'll keep coaching you until you experience that amazing feeling of riding your first wave.
Not at all.
I'll teach you everything from the beginning, including how to paddle efficiently, position yourself on the board, and catch waves safely.
If you'd like to prepare before your trip, practicing a few pop-ups at home or doing some upper-body exercises can help, but it's definitely not required.
Absolutely.
Because we keep our groups small, I have plenty of time to work with each guest individually.
I'll watch your technique, give you feedback, answer your questions, and help you improve throughout the week.
Because small groups create a much better experience.
You'll receive more personal coaching, spend less time waiting for waves, and have more opportunities to improve.
It also creates a friendly atmosphere where everyone gets to know each other. By the end of the week, it usually feels like surfing with a group of friends rather than being part of a tour.
Probably a little!
Surfing uses muscles that most people don't use very often, especially your shoulders, back, and core.
It's completely normal to feel a little sore after your first couple of sessions. Staying hydrated, stretching, and getting a good night's sleep will help your body recover.
That's completely okay.
This is your vacation, and I want you to enjoy it.
If you're feeling tired, not feeling well, or simply want to take a break, there's no pressure at all. The most important thing is that you have a great experience and stay healthy throughout the week.
My goal isn't just to teach you how to stand on a surfboard.
I want you to leave Hawaii feeling comfortable in the ocean, understanding the basics of surfing, and having memories you'll never forget.
Watching someone catch their first wave and seeing the smile on their face is one of the best parts of my job.
Equipment & Practical Questions
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in.
Most guys wear board shorts or swim trunks, while many women wear a swimsuit or bikini. If you choose to surf in a bikini, I recommend making sure it fits securely, as the waves can sometimes move things around.
We also provide rash guards for everyone. They help protect you from the sun and prevent rubbing from the surfboard. If you prefer wearing leggings or a long-sleeve swimsuit for extra sun protection, that's absolutely fine too.
No.
We provide all the equipment you'll need during the camp, including your surfboard and rash guard.
I'll choose the right board for your height, weight, experience level, and the ocean conditions to give you the best chance of learning quickly and having fun.
Absolutely.
If you already have your own board and would like to use it, you're welcome to bring it.
For most beginners, though, I recommend using our boards because they're specifically designed to make learning easier and build confidence faster.
I choose your board based on your height, weight, experience, and the conditions on the day.
For beginners, we use large soft-top boards because they're stable, safe, and much easier to learn on.
The right board makes a huge difference, especially when you're catching your first waves.
No.
We don't normally recommend wearing reef shoes during our surf lessons.
Most of the surf spots we use have reef underneath, but you won't be walking across the reef. We usually enter and exit the water through sandy channels or areas where reef shoes aren't necessary.
If you have particularly sensitive feet or the conditions make reef shoes a good idea, we have them available for you to use.
My goal is always to choose the safest and easiest entry and exit based on the conditions that day.
No.
We provide rash guards for all of our guests.
Of course, if you have one that you prefer wearing, you're welcome to bring it.
I don't recommend it.
Even with a strap, sunglasses can easily fall off and disappear in the ocean.
If you want to remember your surfing experience, don't worry. We'll take plenty of photos and videos throughout the week so you can enjoy the memories without worrying about losing your sunglasses.
Absolutely.
You're welcome to bring a GoPro if you'd like to capture your experience.
Just make sure it's attached securely with the proper mount or float so you don't lose it in the ocean.
The Hawaiian sun is much stronger than many people expect.
I highly recommend using reef-safe sunscreen before every surf session and reapplying it throughout the day.
One area people often forget is the back of their legs, especially behind the knees. It's one of the most common places to get sunburned while surfing.
If you're sensitive to the sun, wearing leggings or a long-sleeve rash guard is also a great option.
Surfing is an ocean sport, so there are always natural conditions to respect.
That's why safety is my number one priority.
I carefully choose beginner-friendly surf spots, explain ocean safety before every lesson, and stay with you in the water throughout the session.
We'll never surf in conditions that aren't appropriate for the group.
A one-hour lesson is a fun introduction, but it's very different from spending an entire week learning.
At HI Surf Camp, you'll surf multiple times, receive personal coaching, and have time to build confidence and improve with every session.
You'll also experience waterfalls, hikes, snorkeling, the North Shore, local food, and many of the places that make Hawaii so special.
By the end of the week, you won't just have tried surfing. You'll have experienced Hawaii in a way that most visitors never do.
For me, it's about much more than teaching people how to surf.
I want you to experience the Hawaii that I love.
We'll surf incredible waves, explore beautiful places around the island, enjoy amazing local food, and create unforgettable memories together.
By the end of the week, most guests don't feel like they've joined a tour. They feel like they've spent an amazing week in Hawaii with new friends.
Of course.
I'm always happy to answer your questions before you book.
The easiest way to reach me is through WhatsApp on the HI Surf Camp website. If you'd rather talk in person, we can also schedule a phone call.
I want you to feel completely comfortable and excited before deciding to join us in Hawaii.
There really isn't another place quite like Hawaii to learn how to surf. This is the birthplace of surfing, and you can feel that connection to the ocean everywhere you go. The water is warm year-round, it's incredibly clear, and you're surrounded by beautiful beaches, palm trees, and incredible scenery. It's not unusual to see sea turtles swimming nearby while you're in the water, and after your lesson you might be watching the sunset from the beach. On top of that, Hawaii has a strong surf culture, experienced instructors, lifeguards at many beaches, and some of the best beginner waves in the world. Learning to surf here isn't just about standing on a board. It's about experiencing the place where surfing began.
My goal is to teach you much more than just how to stand up on a surfboard. Throughout the week you'll learn how to paddle efficiently, catch waves, pop up with good technique, understand ocean safety, and feel comfortable in the lineup. We'll also talk about surf etiquette, how to read the waves, and why choosing the right wave is just as important as catching one. As you improve, I'll continue giving you personal feedback and adjust my coaching to your level and your goals. Some guests simply want to catch their first wave and have fun, while others want to improve as much as possible. Whatever your goal is, I'll help you get there.
I believe everyone learns differently, so I don't teach every guest the same way. Throughout the week I'll spend time getting to know you, understanding your goals, and helping you improve at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Because our groups are small, I can give you personal feedback both in and out of the water, answer your questions, and focus on the areas that will help you progress the most. I take the coaching seriously because I want you to leave Hawaii not only with great memories, but with the confidence and knowledge to continue surfing long after the camp is over.
I actually think these four questions are stronger than many of the technical FAQs because they explain why HI Surf Camp is special, not just how it works. They sell the experience without sounding like a sales pitch, which is exactly how you naturally talk to guests.
Our surf lessons are approximately two hours, and I've found that's the perfect amount of time for most people.
During those two hours, we'll carry the boards to the beach, warm up, go through any coaching we need, spend plenty of time in the water, and take short breaks whenever necessary. Surfing is more physical than most people expect, so by the end of the session, most guests are happily tired and feel like they've had plenty of time in the water. Some guests even choose to come out a little earlier if they're feeling exhausted, and that's completely okay. The goal is to have fun, learn, and finish the session with a smile.
We surf on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Wednesday is our recovery day, giving everyone a chance to rest, explore more of the island, enjoy some local food, or simply relax before the final two surf days.
I like having a recovery day in the middle of the week because surfing uses muscles that most people aren't used to using. By Thursday, everyone feels refreshed, more confident, and ready to get back in the water
Surf Spots, Conditions & Safety
The surf location depends on the season, the ocean conditions, and the experience level of the group.
During the summer, we often surf in Waikiki because it offers long, gentle waves that are perfect for beginners.
If Waikiki is unusually flat, we may head to another beginner-friendly beach, including spots on the North Shore where the conditions are suitable.
During the winter, the North Shore produces the famous giant waves you've probably seen on TV. While those waves are incredible to watch, there are also protected beginner beaches around the island where we can safely teach.
Every day, I'll choose the location that offers the safest and most enjoyable conditions for the group.
No.
Waikiki is one of our favorite beginner locations, especially during the summer, but we don't surf there every day.
One of the advantages of living on Oahu is knowing where the best beginner waves are depending on the forecast.
If another beach offers better conditions, that's where we'll go.
Our goal isn't to surf the same beach every day—it's to give you the best possible experience.
Waikiki is famous for teaching people how to surf, and once you're in the water you'll understand why. The waves are long, gentle, and forgiving, which gives beginners much more time to stand up, find their balance, and enjoy the ride. Instead of feeling rushed, you can actually relax and focus on learning. The warm, clear water and the beautiful view of Diamond Head make every session unforgettable, and having lifeguards nearby adds another level of confidence for
Hawaii is the birthplace of surfing, and there's no better place to experience the sport.
The warm water, beautiful beaches, consistent waves, and year-round surfing make it an ideal place for beginners.
Oahu also offers a variety of beginner-friendly surf breaks, which means we can choose locations that match your ability and the daily conditions.

Every beach is different.
Some work better with certain tides, some work better with different wind directions, and some are better depending on the size of the swell.
Every morning, I check the surf forecast, wind, tides, and ocean conditions before deciding where we'll surf.
This flexibility allows us to find the best waves for learning instead of being limited to just one beach.
Because nature always has the final say.
The ocean changes every day, and the best surf spot today may not be the best surf spot tomorrow.
Instead of following a fixed plan, I choose the location that gives the group the safest conditions and the best opportunity to learn.
That flexibility is one of the advantages of surfing with a local instructor who knows the island well.
Safety always comes first.
If the waves are too big at one location, we'll simply go somewhere else.
Oahu has several beginner-friendly beaches, and there's almost always a protected spot with smaller waves.
Every morning, I'll check the forecast and choose the safest location for the group.
The ocean is always changing.
If one beach doesn't have waves, another beach often does.
That's one of the advantages of surfing with a local instructor who checks the conditions every day and knows where to find the best beginner waves.
Weather changes quickly in Hawaii, and that's completely normal.
A passing tropical shower usually doesn't affect surfing very much.
If the weather or ocean conditions create a safety concern, we'll simply adjust the schedule or move to another location.
Our goal is always to give you the best and safest experience possible.
Yes.

I mean for part three, do all at once in part three.
Perfect. This time I'll stick to questions we've actually discussed or that are very natural follow-ups from guests. No made-up itinerary, no invented policies.
Occasionally, Hawaii experiences jellyfish arrivals, but they're predictable and usually affect the beaches for only a few days each month.
If jellyfish are expected at one beach, we'll simply choose another location whenever possible.
I'll always keep an eye on ocean conditions and make decisions based on what's safest for the group.

Where you sleep, what's included and how rooms work.
No.
Accommodation is not included in the HI Surf Camp package because we want to give you the flexibility to choose what works best for your trip. Some guests already have a hotel booked, others prefer a hostel, and many enjoy finding their own Airbnb.
If you'd rather not organize it yourself, you can simply add accommodation when you book your camp. We partner with the Shoreline Hotel in the heart of Waikīkī, making it easy to join all of the camp activities while enjoying one of the best locations on the island.
If you choose to add accommodation through HI Surf Camp, we offer two options at the Shoreline Hotel in Waikīkī.
A shared room is $650 and is shared with a maximum of one other guest.
A private room is $1,150, making it a great option if you'd like your own space or if you're traveling as a couple.
The hotel is centrally located in Waikīkī and includes amenities such as morning coffee, water, and a swimming pool, making it the perfect base for your week in Hawaii.
Absolutely.
You're welcome to stay wherever you'd like. Many guests already have accommodation booked before joining the camp.
If you decide to arrange your own place, I recommend staying in Waikīkī or nearby Honolulu so it's easy to meet the group each day and enjoy everything the area has to offer.
I want every guest to have the freedom to build the Hawaii vacation that suits them best.
Some people love luxury hotels, some enjoy boutique hotels, and others are happy staying in a hostel or Airbnb. Instead of making everyone pay for the same accommodation, I keep it optional.
That way, you can choose what fits your budget and travel style, while still having the option to stay with the rest of the group through our accommodation partner if you'd like.
Booking
Booking your spot is easy. Simply choose one of our scheduled camp dates on the website and complete your booking online.
We normally run one group camp each month with fixed dates. If those dates don't work for you or you're interested in a private surf camp, just get in touch. I'm happy to arrange private coaching or a private camp at a time that suits your schedule.
Your camp includes professional surf coaching, daily breakfast, all surf equipment, transportation during scheduled camp activities, adventure activities, photos and videos throughout the week, and plenty of local recommendations to help you experience the very best of Hawaii.
My goal is for you to spend less time planning and more time enjoying your vacation while learning to surf.
Flights, accommodation, lunch, dinner, travel insurance, and personal expenses are not included.
This gives you the flexibility to choose the accommodation and dining options that best fit your budget and travel style.
To secure your spot, a $200 deposit is required when you book.
If you prefer, you can also pay the full amount at the time of booking and receive a $100 discount.
The remaining balance is due before your camp begins.
We accept all major credit and debit cards through our secure online booking system, making it easy to book from anywhere in the world.
If your plans change, you can reschedule your camp up to 60 days before your camp starts.
For full details about cancellations, refunds, and rescheduling, please refer to our cancellation policy on the website. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me before booking.
Before You Travel
Yes, I highly recommend purchasing travel insurance before your trip.
While nobody expects travel plans to change, insurance can give you peace of mind in case of flight cancellations, medical emergencies, lost luggage, or other unexpected situations.
That depends on your nationality.
Since Hawaii is part of the United States, you'll need to follow the same entry requirements as anywhere else in the U.S. I recommend checking the latest visa or ESTA requirements for your country well before you travel.
My goal is for you to spend less time planning and more time enjoying your vacation while learning to surf.
You'll want to fly into Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu.
It's the main airport on Oahu and the closest airport to Waikīkī, where the camp takes place.
I recommend arriving at least one day before the camp begins.
This gives you time to settle in, recover from your flight, adjust to the time difference, and start the camp feeling rested and ready to surf.
If your flight is delayed, just let me know as soon as possible.
We'll do our best to help you join the camp as smoothly as possible. Good communication is key, so the sooner I know, the easier it is to make a plan.
Absolutely.
Many guests choose to spend a few extra days in Hawaii before or after the camp to explore more of the island. If you're booking accommodation through us, let me know in advance and we'll do our best to arrange additional nights, subject to availability.
Once your booking is confirmed, you'll receive everything you need to prepare for your trip.
I'll send you all the important information, including what to pack, where we'll meet, what to expect during the week, and how to contact me if you have any questions before you arrive.
Yes.
A few weeks before your camp starts, you'll receive detailed information to help you prepare for your trip. If anything comes up before then, you're always welcome to reach out. I'm happy to answer any questions and make sure you feel ready before arriving in Hawaii.
I have one more question I'd add because I think it's something people genuinely wonder:
Almost half of our guests travel solo, so you'll be in great company.
One of the best parts of HI Surf Camp is meeting people from around the world who share the same passion for adventure and surfing. By the end of the week, it's common for complete strangers to leave as friends.
Whether you're traveling alone, with a partner, or with friends, you'll feel welcome from day one
Not during the camp.
Transportation for all scheduled camp activities is included, so you won't need a rental car while the camp is running.
If you're planning to explore more of Oahu before or after the camp, renting a car can be a great way to see more of the island.
That depends on your travel style.
Breakfast and transportation during the camp are included, so you'll mainly need money for lunch, dinner, souvenirs, and any personal activities you'd like to do during your free time.
Most places in Hawaii accept credit and debit cards, so you won't need to carry much cash.
Yes.
Many of our guests combine the camp with remote work or a longer vacation.
Just keep in mind that our days start early and are packed with activities, so it's best if your work schedule is flexible.
Once your booking is confirmed, you'll receive a confirmation email with everything you need to prepare for your trip. This includes information about your camp, optional accommodation, what to pack, and what to expect during the week.
A few days before the camp begins, I'll also send you all the final details, including our meeting point at Moku Surf Shop, the meeting time, and any last-minute information you need before we hit the water.
If you have any questions at any point before arriving, just reach out. I'm always happy to help.
Hikes, tours and everything beyond the surf.
Surfing is the main focus of the camp, but I also want you to experience everything that makes Hawaii so special.
Throughout the week we'll go snorkeling in crystal-clear water, hike to a beautiful waterfall, enjoy an easy to moderate hike with incredible views, paddle board on a peaceful river, explore some of Oahu's most famous beaches, and discover places that most visitors never get to experience.
Every activity has been chosen to give you a true taste of Hawaii, both in and out of the water.
Not at all.
The adventures are designed for the average person with a normal level of fitness. Our hikes are considered easy to moderate, usually taking around 45 minutes at a comfortable pace. We take our time, enjoy the scenery, and make plenty of stops along the way.
The goal isn't to race to the top—it's to enjoy the experience together.
Yes.
Snorkeling is one of my favorite activities during the week and it's included in the camp. We'll visit one of Oahu's beautiful snorkeling spots where you'll have the chance to explore Hawaii's incredible underwater world.
If we're lucky, we may even see Hawaiian green sea turtles and colorful tropical fish in their natural habitat.
Yes.
One of the activities during the week is stand-up paddle boarding on a calm river. It's a completely different experience from surfing and a great way to enjoy another side of Hawaii while taking in the beautiful scenery at a relaxed pace.
Our hikes are suitable for most people with an average level of fitness. They're considered easy to intermediate, so you don't need to be an experienced hiker to enjoy them.
During the week, we'll explore a beautiful rainforest hike to a waterfall and one of Oahu's famous pillbox hikes, both offering incredible scenery and amazing photo opportunities. Most of the hikes take around 45 minutes each way, and we always go at a relaxed pace with plenty of time to enjoy the views.
The goal isn't to push ourselves or do anything risky—it's simply to experience some of Hawaii's most beautiful landscapes together. Just bring comfortable shoes, some water, and your camera because the views are definitely worth it.
Every day is a little different, but you can expect a combination of surf lessons, adventures, great food, and time to explore Hawaii.
One day we might be surfing in Waikīkī, another day hiking to a waterfall, snorkeling in crystal-clear water, or paddle boarding on the river. We also build in time to relax, recover, and enjoy everything the island has to offer.
No two weeks feel exactly the same, but every week is packed with unforgettable experiences.
Yes.
Hawaii's weather and ocean conditions change every day, so I always keep the schedule flexible. This allows me to choose the best surf conditions and the safest locations for each activity.
Sometimes we simply swap activities around, but my goal is always the same: to give you the best possible experience while making the most of the conditions.
Absolutely.
If you're staying in Hawaii before or after the camp, I'm more than happy to recommend my favorite beaches, hikes, restaurants, surf spots, and hidden gems around Oahu.
I want you to make the most of your time in Hawaii, even after the camp is over.
Hawaii is the birthplace of surfing, so there's no better place to experience the sport where it all began. The warm water, consistent waves, beautiful beaches, and incredible surf culture make it the perfect destination for beginners and experienced surfers alike.
Learning to surf in Hawaii isn't just about standing on a wave—it's about experiencing the history, culture, and lifestyle that have made surfing famous around the world.
Oahu has everything I could ask for in a surf camp. It offers amazing beginner waves, beautiful beaches, waterfalls, hiking trails, snorkeling, great local food, and a unique Hawaiian culture.
It also allows us to enjoy a wide variety of adventures throughout the week, so every day offers something different. For me, Oahu is the perfect place to experience the very best of Hawaii.
One of the best things about Hawaii is that it's a year-round destination.
The weather is warm throughout the year, and the ocean is comfortable enough to surf in every season. While we do get occasional rain showers, they usually don't last long, and it's very common to have sunshine again shortly afterward.
Honestly, there's no bad time to visit Hawaii.
Every season has something special to offer, and because we adapt our surf locations and activities to the conditions, you'll have an amazing experience no matter when you decide to join us.
Yes, Hawaii can be more expensive than many other destinations, especially when it comes to accommodation, dining, and activities.
That's one of the reasons I created HI Surf Camp the way I did. I wanted to make the experience as affordable as possible while still giving people the chance to enjoy everything that makes Hawaii so special. By combining surfing, adventures, transportation, breakfast, equipment, and local knowledge into one experience, you get much more value than booking everything separately.
My goal is simple: to make the dream of surfing in Hawaii accessible to as many people as possible.
Yes.
Hawaii is considered one of the safest travel destinations in the United States. Like anywhere in the world, it's important to use common sense, look after your belongings, and be aware of your surroundings, but most visitors find Hawaii to be a very welcoming and relaxed place to travel.
Hawaii has an incredible food scene with something for everyone.
You'll find everything from fresh poke and traditional Hawaiian dishes to Japanese, Korean, Thai, Mexican, Italian, and some of the best food trucks you'll ever try. One of my favorite parts of the week is introducing guests to local restaurants and hidden gems they probably wouldn't discover on their own.
I'd be happy to help you make the most of your trip.
Whether you're looking for hidden beaches, scenic hikes, great restaurants, surf spots, or day trips around Oahu, I'm always happy to share my favorite recommendations. I want every guest to leave Hawaii feeling like they truly experienced the island, not just the typical tourist attractions.
HI Surf Camp started because I wanted to create the kind of surf experience I wish existed when I first fell in love with surfing.
I didn't want to build just another surf school where people show up for a lesson and leave. I wanted to create a place where people could learn to surf, experience the real Hawaii, meet amazing people, and leave with memories that last a lifetime.
Seeing someone catch their first wave is incredible, but seeing the confidence, friendships, and smiles that come from the entire week is what makes this so rewarding for me.
For me, it's never been just about teaching people how to stand up on a surfboard.
HI Surf Camp is about giving you the complete Hawaii experience. We combine professional surf coaching with adventures, local experiences, small groups, and a relaxed atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.
When you leave, I don't just want you to say, "I learned how to surf." I want you to say, "I had one of the best weeks of my life."
Small groups allow me to give every guest the attention they deserve.
I can adapt my coaching to each person's ability, answer questions, give individual feedback, and make sure nobody feels left behind.
It also creates a much more personal atmosphere where everyone gets to know each other and becomes part of the group.
HI Surf Camp is for anyone who has ever dreamed of learning to surf or improving their surfing while experiencing the very best of Hawaii.
Whether you're traveling alone, with friends, or as a couple, and whether you've never touched a surfboard or already have some experience, I'll meet you where you are and help you progress at your own pace.
Of course I hope you leave as a better surfer, but honestly, that's only part of it.
I hope you leave with unforgettable memories, new friendships, more confidence, and a real connection to Hawaii. If you go home inspired to keep surfing, explore more of the world, or simply try something new, then I've done my job.
I believe it's because people feel genuinely welcomed from the moment they arrive.
I care about every guest's experience, both in and out of the water. My goal is to make sure you have an amazing week, improve your surfing, and experience Hawaii in a way that feels authentic and personal.
That's why so many guests leave not only with great memories, but also with friendships and a desire to come back.
People often ask me how many waves they should expect to catch or how quickly they'll improve. Of course, I want every guest to become a better surfer, but success means much more than that.
If you leave the camp smiling, feeling more confident in the ocean, making new friends, and falling in love with surfing and Hawaii, then that's a successful week for me.
Surfing has given me so much over the years, and teaching is my way of giving something back.
There's nothing quite like seeing someone catch their first wave or overcome a fear they didn't think they could. Watching that excitement and confidence grow throughout the week is what keeps me doing this.
I genuinely love sharing my passion for surfing and Hawaii with people from all over the world.
Because you're not just booking a surf camp—you're joining an experience.
From the moment you arrive, my goal is to make you feel welcome and show you the very best of Hawaii. You'll receive professional coaching, explore incredible places, meet amazing people, and create memories that will stay with you long after your vacation ends.
Honestly, it's the people.
Every camp brings together guests from different countries, backgrounds, and experiences, but by the end of the week everyone is cheering each other on, sharing laughs, and celebrating each other's progress.
Watching complete strangers become friends, seeing someone stand up on a wave for the first time, or hearing that this was the highlight of their Hawaii trip—that's what makes all the hard work worth it.
Absolutely.
In fact, I encourage you to reach out before booking if you have any questions at all. Booking a surf camp is a big decision, and I want you to feel completely comfortable before making your reservation.
The best way to get in touch with me is through WhatsApp. You'll be speaking directly with me, not a customer service team, so I can answer your questions, help you choose the right camp, and make sure HI Surf Camp is the right fit for you.
I'd much rather spend a few minutes answering your questions beforehand so you arrive in Hawaii feeling excited and confident.
